The aim of the Art Department at Chandlings is to create a happy environment where each individual’s creativity is developed, enhanced and celebrated. Enquiring minds are positively encouraged! Art is taught throughout the school by specialist Art teachers who aim to inspire. They are passionate about their subject.
The grounds are beautiful at Chandlings and pupils love drawing and working in them. Visits to local museums and galleries or artist workshops help to inspire and encourage them in their artistic explorations.
All pupils develop their creativity and imagination by exploring the visual, tactile and sensory qualities of materials. They learn the role of art, craft and design in their environment. They begin to understand colour, shape, space, pattern and texture. They use them to represent their ideas and feelings. The children are introduced to artists and their working methods.
Pupils have the opportunity to develop further through more complex activities. These help to build on their skills and to improve their control of materials, tools and techniques. Pupils are able to increase their critical awareness of the roles and purposes of art, craft and design from different eras and cultures. They become more confident to communicate what they see, feel and think through the use of materials and processes.
