Healthy Eating

Chandlings School lunchRuth Castle is our Head Chef. She has been with us for 10 years and is committed to using fresh produce locally sourced. Ruth works on a three week cycle of menus designed to be imaginative, interesting and tempting. We encourage all the children to eat a hot meal each day.

Good table manners and a sensible diet are important to us all and we try to ensure both by having a member of staff at each table who help to guide and support where necessary.

Chandlings School lunchChildren from Year 1 upwards are given a choice of a hot or cold main course together with a cooked pudding in addition to organic yoghurt and fresh fruit.

We persuade Year 6 pupils to recycle food waste and we also have a flourishing vegetable garden where our pupils help plant both vegetables and fruit. Children can help tend the garden as part of an enrichment activity.

We try our best to cater for specialist diets. We are happy to discuss any dietary requests or concerns.

Please remember that we have a number of children who suffer from food allergies. As a result we operate a strict No Nuts policy. Please ensure that when bringing cakes/homemade food into school that it does Not contain Nuts.

Ruth has introduced the children to new foods from around the world during our themed lunches. We encourage everyone to have a taste! We have enjoyed French Breakfast, Chinese New Year, Victorian Day and Organic Day.
