Philosophy lessons are a perfect opportunity for children to explore their own opinions and learn how to discuss a topic sensibly. We use pictures, stories and quotes to encourage an imaginative discussion which helps promote thinking skills and independent thought. In addition, we spend time studying different philosophers, making fact files about their lives and investigating their philosophies.
Philosophy is timetabled as a weekly 40 minute lesson and no additional homework will be set.
During Classical Studies lessons, children will study aspects of life in ancient Roman and Greek times. This will include looking at myths and legends as a means of understanding what it meant to be a citizen living in 5th century Athens and 79 AD Rome. Classical Studies is timetabled as a weekly 40 minute lesson and no additional homework will be set. The lessons will focus on discursive and research skills, using a variety of resources and trips or workshops. There will be several ‘self-led’ projects.
